Born in Suva, Fiji, Ronald is best remembered as a professional newspaper journalist having started his career in Fiji with The Fiji Times and The Fiji Sun. He quickly moved to the position of senior journalist engaged in writing and interviewing people, politicians and others in Fiji and the Pacific region. Obviously he inherited special talents in the news business from his late father Mr Jayant Raghuraj Singh– a senior executive of the then Fiji’s Public Relations Office (later being classified as the Ministry of Information’s and mother Sulbha Chitrawati Singh (D/O Babu Parmanand Singh– one of our pioneers in Fiji’s Legislative Council)
In 1987, he moved to New Zealand and continued his career with the Sunday Star newspaper in Auckland. Despite a very competitive work environment, he was successful in establishing himself as journalist/reporter. His attributes and talents were recognized resulting in him being selected as part of the team travelling to Europe and Germany with the then Prime Minister of New Zealand Mr Mike More– to see and report on a new Germany following the destruction of the infamous German Wall.
His enthusiasm to move forward in his career led him to relocate to Sydney NSW where he joined the Fairfax Group as a sub-editor/editor. He continued in this profession until he was compelled to undertake part time duties because of few medical conditions. Later this led him to relocate to Auckland, retire and address his declining medical conditions. He remained in Auckland since then until his demise at the Middlemore Hospital.
He had a special interest in watching major team sports such as soccer, rugby and cricket and would never miss the news hour on TV or on a radio broadcast. Thus, he kept himself up to date with the happenings around the world. Music, movies and TV programmes were also part of his interest along with travelling and reading.
He leaves behind his mother and children Ramona and Vikhil, sister Reena Singh, niece Prenika Singh, Sister Rita Mudaliar and other nieces and nephews in New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, USA and Canada.
